It must be very gratifying both to the Nelson Carnival Executive and to citizens generally to learn that Mr John Hopkins has placed his services at their disposal for the forthcoming Carnival. Mr Hopkins is the originator of the famous inardi gras at Napier, which is an annual event known right throughout New Zealand. He has been the organiser and producer of all the big carnivals in New Zealand, and last year was specially engaged from this country to conduct four ■ similar functions in New South Wales. He is described as capable of inspiring unbounded enthusiasm in projects that he proposes. Whenever he is located the remark is always passed, “When does he eat and sleep?” He is a glutton for work, and his _ office light can always be seen going till one in the morning. Mr Hopkins considers Nelson one of the ideal towns in New Zealand for such an affair. In fact, he had offers from four othor larger towns for about the same date, but lie turned them all down .in favour of NcUoii._ He expressed himself as very wqII pleased with the large amount of work that had already been done by the Executive, and this was recognised in a very satisfactory and practical way by him at the final negotiations.
