Nov. 22 The Matin’s Lausanne correspondent interviewed Signor Mussolini, who said that France had every right, to be dissatisfied with the Peace. The war was not carried to its natural conclusion. The French ought to have finished up in Berlin and the Italians in Vienna and Budapest. The Allies now realised there was little chance of obtaining what was due to them. The situation was disquieting for both France and Italy. There was a German flood at Italy’s frontier. The Tyrol was no more than a geographical expression. Franco might he driven at any time to obtain fulfilment of her just demands. If she acted against the opinion of the majority of the powers she would have before her Germany and behind Germany, Russia. The Near East was animated by Bolshevik madness which was attracting Germany, hungry lor revenge. Chauvinism and Bolshevism, two aggressive forces, were growing wonderfully and only if the powers entered into close unity could they resist those forces. Italy’s alliance with France must come under three, heads—jirstlj , a close economic agreement providing exchange of manufactures for natural pmducts; secondly, a military entente eiiaiding them to meet any eventuality; thirdly, a political entente under which they would talce the same attitude on all ‘questions in European capitals.
