LANCASHIRE COTTON TRADE
WORST TIME FOR FORTY YEARS (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright., (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, Nov. 21. The Lancashire cotton trade is experiencing the worst lime for forty years. It is proposed to further shorten working hours to three days weekly throughout the American section, constituting seventy per cent, of spinners and affecting 129,000 workers. Distress among operatives is acute. Thu union’s funds are depleted and many have had to reduce some of the benefits. Since Ist January in Britain the wages of seven to twelve million workers has been reduced to the extent of £5,250,000 weekly. Seventy-five thousand iiad increases totalling £115,000 weekly.
