nelson defence club The Nelson Rifle Club fired on Saturday afternoon the. second of their championship series of seven shots each at 500 and 600 yards. The day was all that could he desired, but the scoring on the whole was disappointing, 64 off the rifle being the best score, this being compiled by Rifleman F- Gledhill. Lieut. D. Kenniim, who shot very well indeed, secured "the leg-ln for ’Messrs Wilkins and Field’s trophy, scoring 62 off the rifle. His 33 at 600 yards is a credit to so young Hi shot, it being the best score at that range for the day. In the Second Class, Rifleman R. Fisher, another promising young shot, secured the leg-in for Mr E. Savage’s trophy, and also best score for the Second-class Championship with 62 off the rifle, an excellent performance. Li tile first championship shoot Rifleman L. Miteliener should have taken second place. His score was 65, not 63, as sent to the press.

Afternoon lea was dispensed by the ladies and greatly appreciated by all. Mr C. Lco\vopened the range with an appropriate speech, and the president’s; wife (Mrs J. A. Laird) fired the first shot, registering a bulls-eye. The men’s competition was keenly contested, the prize-winners being H. Simpson, G. Young, M. Neale, Ist, 2nd and , 3rd respectively, with a score of 45 each. The ladies’* 3-shot competition was won by Mrs J. A. Laird with 12 points, Mrs Manic and Mrs Moore 2nd and 3rd, with 10 points each. Luring (he day a teams match was fired against, the Havelock team, the visitors winning by 16 points.
