POLITICAL

(To tho Edttorl Sir,—ML Atmore and his friends are putting up a very pretty bluff on the electors. It is very successful till the bluff is called. Mr Atinove’s weakest p6int is how little, he has done for his district since his election. The bluff is to protend he has done wonderfully well. The truth is that it would be difficult to find any previous member who; has done less, unless wo compare it with Mr Alin ore’s own previous innings. Mr Atmoro takes the Oleuhope railway expenditure which is in Mr Hudson’s district, and compares what was voted for this in war time—during his predecessor’s term of office, with what was voted after war time. All railway expenditure was practically stopped in war time. Mr Hudson would naturally he expected to get more expended after the war than during war time. If Nelson had no member at nil, Mr Hudson would have got this expenditure just the same. Then Mr A ( more claims sole credit for The £SOOO loan to tho settlers for manures. How much of this would the settlers have got if they had not- sent deputations to the Government, and worked for it themselves. This is also partly in Mr Hudson’s district-. I»ut lake Mr Atm'oro’s o»vn district and sec what lie has done. For the past 20 years he has had a pci scheme of a new railway station for Nelson. He has orated about it at' all his meetings. He has not got a brick for it yet. Take the Aunesbrook death trap railway crossing, what lias be done there?. He seems to take so little interest in it that be is not even abusing the Government about it, although he is abusing them for the usual marcs’ nests he drags up at. election time. Another bluff by Ids friends is also to say he is a public philanthropist ' because he does anything at all for bis honorarium. Every little thing he does for his constituency appears in the papers. There are very few of the electors who would not think they ■ were well paid if they did three times as much for £lO a week, free rides all over New Zealand, and a holiday from Parliament for six months or more in the year. - I am, etc., ANTI-BLUFF.

(To the Editor) Sir, —I sec by Saturda.vV Mai! a report of llic meeting af Hioke held by air 11, Atmore. Mr Atmore admitted tin's, nut ho blamed the Reform Government because Mr Massey was Premier'; but these questions were only being asked so tts to besmirch Sir Joseph Ward. The report also omits to say that after the chairman called for a motion, several minutes elapsed and no one spoke. Then Mr Tate, ns an act of courtesy, proposed and Mr Allport seconded. (So why put tags to their names). Then oiie of Mr Alnlove’fS,supporters woke up atid Mr Keiining (chairman of Mr Atinore's committee) [imposed as an amendment a vote of thanks and confidence hi Mr Atmore. Mr Avery (who performed, a tike service for Mr Atmore in Nelson) seconded. Tin's was carried without dissent. I am, etc., ONE WHO WAS THERE. Stoke, 12/11/22'.
