METHODIST CHURCH SYNOD

The Nelson District Synod will open at St. John’s Church to-morrow. A day of retreat for ministers and missionaries will be held, at which matters of spiritual import will be considered. At 7 p.m. a short public service will be held in the church, at which the -Rev. J. F. Jack will preach what is officially known as a trial sermon. The conversazione and public welcome to the Synod will be held in ,St. John’s Hall on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Mr A. A. Lucas wilj preside, and the Mayor and the Deaii of Nelson will extend a welcome to the ministers. The Rev. W. Greenslade, Chairman of the District, will respond. The musical programme will be of special merit, including songs by visiting ministers and by Miss Vera Smith, and harp and other instrumental items by Mrs P. Mitchell and party and Mrs .1. R. Nelson. Refreshments will be provided by the Ladies Gutyl, and a happy social evening is anticipated. Tickets at one shilling may be obtained from Bible Class members or at the doors.

The Synod will engage in its routine business during Thursday and Friday, many important matters of Dominion interest being discussed, as well as affairs affecting the Nelson and adjoining provinces.
