Haawell, who did not appear, was •lined 20/-, eosta 7/-. K. G. Clements, who was similarly charged, admitted being on titc premises, but denied that. Jio was there tor the. purpose of procuring liquor. Fined 20/- and coste 7/-. C. A. Burns pleaded guilty to being found on licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order, and also with,being found mi licensed premises. For being found on licensed Remises defendant was convicted and ordered to pay 7/- coats; and on the, second charge he waa fined 40/-, costs 7/-. DEFENCE '"PUOSEOOTIONS J. G. Perano, with several previous convictions, pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to render personal service. Convicted and fined £3, costs 7/ -. The Magistrate said he would double the fines every time defendant, appeared before him* A. C. Craig was fined 5/- and costs; "K. N. Kerr (previous convictions) 20/and coats; N. IT. L. Bethwaite, costs 7/-. The charge against R. D. Bick<>tts, who put in a medical certificate wis dismissed. Another charge, against T. C. Taylor was adjourned. * CRUELTY TO" AXIMALS L. Hunter, waggoner. was charged with ill-treating a, horse by working it while sufrerinig from •■ sore shoulder. Mr Fell, for the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, "said that as a rule defendant's teams wire in good condition. Tn a letter to counsel defendant pleaded guilty and said the occurrence was regrettable, as he had always made it ln's dutv to abstain from working his horses when they were suffering in the least from sores. He felt convinced that anyone, with whom he (defendant) was acquainted on the road would.hear him out. in this particular. j F.
