CARNIVAL CONCERT
FINE PROGRAMME SUBMITTED The Carnival concert_ given at the Theatre Royal last evening was of more than ordinary ftierit, and the fair-sized audience gave the performers a most enthusiastic reception, every item being encored. Prior to the commencement of %e programme, Mr H, ft. Duncan, on behalf of the committee, explained that although a considerable amount of money had been guaranteed towards the Carnival expenses, the committee had decided to hold a series of entertainments with the idea of interesting the public and the funds. Ho pointed out the advantages of a carnival in attracting visitors to the city, which would form a splendid way or advertising the place. Mr Duncan apologised for the absence of Miss Ella Robertson, who was indisposed, and Meg Cimino, y?lio had not yet ■ returned from Wellington, hut their places had been kindly filled by Miss Betty Allan and Messrs Sunley, McCabe, and E. Allan. The following contributed items: Songs, Miss D. Horne, Mrs J. W. Holmes, Mr D. Short, and Mr J. W, Holmes; duet, Mr and Mrs Holmes; monologue. Mr McCabe ; violin solos Mr Sunjey; Mr Ghas. Moody, comedian; and Miss Fairhall, accompanist. A onoact play entitled “Was She to Blame?’’ made a decided “hit,” and at the fall of tbs; curtain the .performers were recalled to the stage and given rounds of hearty applause The bulk of the work fell on Mrs E. A. Allan and Mr AT Bush, and they were ably assisted by Miss Sowman and Mr F. W. Huggins. The whole programme was greatly onioyed, and all those responsible aro to Ho congratulated on the result of their efforts.
