BAD CHARACTERS AT WORKS

ATTEMPT TO*BREAK INTO PREMISES Between 8 and 8.30 last evening a determined attempt was made to break into the premises of the Wilkins and Eield Hardware Company, Hardy street. On opening up the place this morning it was found that a door in the Rack of the establishment had received rough treatment. A panel had been wrenched away and an attempt made to raise the door open from the bottom, while other marks on the door clearly indicated the attempt at entry. Several solid iron, bar# ana a piece of railway iron had been used in the attempt, bub evidently the pei’sons responsible had mther been disturbed while at work or had given up the attempt as a bad job, as the lock on the door is fixed with an iron bolt and caused unlooked for resistance. Indications point to an entry having been made from the adjoining yard of Levin and Co.’s premises. It is understood that during the evening two young men were seen loitering about the vicinity of Welwyn Place, and when asked what they were doing they made off. The police are njaking investigations. POST OFFICE ROBBED A few days ago the Motnpiko Post, Office was broken into and a small sum of money and some stamps were stolen.
