DEPRESSION IN RUBBER GROWING
RESTRICTION OF OUTPUT (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, Oct. 12. The Colonial Office has been investigating the depression in the rubber growing industry and has issued a report, which Mr Churchill approved, ra commending restricted output in Ceylon, Malay, and the Straits Settlements on a sliding scale calculated qu a three months’ period, until the price of rubber averages fifteen peace a pound. The first stage will be the authorisation of export* not exceeding sixty per cent of the standard of production at a minimum export duty, thereafter five ppi cent quarterly in export production at the minimum duty. As the necessary proposals are approvable by the colonies concerned several ■ British estates in the Dutch East Indies have offered to cooperate La voluntary restriction of out put.
