Mr R, Allan (“Ronald”) returned this morning from a tour of China and the Far East. Professor Easterfield and Bishop/ Sadder were, inward passengers by the! s.s. Ngaio this morning. ’ j Mr J. H. Jerram, Deputy General: Manager State Fire Office, and Mr F.' B. Bolt, Supervisor, Government Insur-., ance Department, are in Nelson, on de-% parttnental business. Mr J. E. Stevens, widely known i throughout New Zealand as director of the school for deaf and dumb at Sum- | nor, retires on superannuation at the end of the year after thirty-six years’, Mr James Drummond, chief inspector | of secondary schools, has been appointed headmaster of Auckland Grammar School. fc ’j Mr W. A. Hislop, who has been con-,, nected with the Y.M.C.A. movement in - Nelson, for over two years as district j secretary, has joined the staff of the National Committee; and leaves on Monday j evening for North Auckland to organise a financial campaign for the purpose of erecting a Y.M.C.A. building. While, in Nelson Mr Hislop has done valuable work for the movement, and undertook ! the preliminary steps which resulted in tluf buildings at Wakefield,. Richmond, ; and Nelson being .erected. Mr Hislop,; lias also had charge of the camps fork boys held during the summer months,', and his broad outlook and sympathetic,, attitude towards all movements ' - having for their object the welfare of the young people has earned for him many well-de-served tributes. Mr Hislop will take; away with him' the good wishes of a. host of friends. ..... '
