NELSON JOCKEY CLUE AND TROTTING STAKES (By Telegraph.—Special to The Mail.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. At a meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association a letter was read from the Nelson Jockey Club asking the Board to pass the trotting events at its annual meeting with stakes of 125 sovs each, even though that amount was not quite up to the average of stakes for galloping events, exclusive of the principal event. It was pointed out that the Club did not eon. sidor it advisable that stakes for the trotting events at the Jockey Club’s meeting should overshadow those for the Trotting Club’s meeting. In a further letter the Club pointed out that taking last year’s figures as a basis a stake of £125 would not be payable to the Club, and if the Association insisted on the full average amount being given the Club would bo reluctantly compelled to consider the question of eliminating trotting events. A similar application was received from the MaNborough .Racing Club in this connection. The Marlborough Trot* 'ting Club wrote stating that it quite approved of the stakes offered by the Racing Club, which it considered quite as much as the Club could afford under present conditions. After discussion it was decided that tire application could not bo granted, and that the rule on the subject must be adhered to. The Nelson Trotting Club’s programme was approved.
