STOKE WAR MEMORIAL CAMPAIGN
At a well-attended moot in-; of the general commii tec held last evening, the secretary, .iMr J. Biggar, submit - ted a progress report which shoucif that the campaign, so far, I,ad oi a very successful nature, about half el the total amount required being accounted for. The chairman, .Mr A. Gilbert, i' l congrat ilia ting the members of the Committee on the excellent progress made, said' that the results wore largely <lnc to 1 the unity, loyalty .and good will with which all had entered the campaign, the splendid organisa 1 ion work, and the will to succeed being sufficient to overcome otherwise insuperable difficulties, The lavonrable consideration extended by Mr I'-, • Russell for running special excursions with his tine ’buses; the Nelson' iwenitm .Mad for giving the campaign pnbliiTTtv; and Messrs Newman Bros, for carrying the Silver Hand at specia rates wen- appreciated by the ConnmttoVotes of thanks and _ appreciation ,were carried to the Nelson B-md the members of which gave np their half-holiday to conn' out ami assist; to those who had generously insisted by contributions ol cash aim .mods :.and to the ini'die loi ‘inn ! splendid support . It was resolved to call a luum meeting of the committee durum; next month, to consider proposals loi uk. lf>2- campaign. , The meeting closed with a vole ot thanks to the chairman and seereta.s for their efforts towards making the movement, a success.
