ROVER CLUB The 116ver Club celebrated the opening of their season by holding a > most eniovablc dance in the Oddfellows Hall Wakefield, on Friday evening. About 50 couples~-were on the floor which had been excellently prepared by the committee. The music was supplied by Mrs Anderson (piano) and Messrs. T. Price (cornet) and E. Pamton (clarionet). Mr Frank Coleman acted as M.C.. A dainty supper was handed round by the ladies. On Saturday afternoon football commenced in the Wakefield Domain. A junior fixture, Waimea v. ladmor, was won by the former team by points to 3. The play was not of a very high order. Mr J- Baigent refereed. Afterwards the married members of) the Hover Club played a friendly match against the single members, which was won by the veterans by 8 points to 3. Mr Geo. Johnson acted as referee. Play at tunc* was of a brilliant order. To the surpnse of the youpger players the older men played best of all in the last quarter of an hour, never letting their opponents cross the half-way mark during that time. A large gathering of spectators, ' ‘ especially of the fcp sex, watched the games, and during the afternoon a dainty afternoon tea loi all present was handed found by* a strong committee of ladies. Everything augurs weU for a prosperous season’s sport.
