A special meeting of the Moiueka Borough Council discussed the proposal submitted to them by the Nelson Hospital and Charitable Aid Boara in connection with the establishing of •a cottage hospital in the borough, and it wa& finally resolved "that the council guarantees any deficiency _in the working expenses of a Maternity Home (Cottage Hospital), provided the fees are raised to £3 10s per week for each patient."

FARMERS' UNION

MOTUEKA BRANCH

A meeting of the executive of the Motueka Branch of the Farmers' Union was held on Wednesday, March 23rd. Mr F. C. Batchelor in the chair.

It was decided to postpone the annual meeting until Friday, April 15th - 'The secretary reported that a large number of subscriptions were still outstanding, and it was arranged that in view of the annual balance, an endeavour be made to collect as many as possible before the end of the month, Mr Batchelor undertaking to collect' in Motueka and Mr Guy in Ngatimoti. It was resolved to write to Mr R. P. Hudson, M.P., to ask if he could arrange for a .small supply of the Nauru Island rock phosphate in to test if the plant at the Riwaka lime works is suitable for crushing this raw material.

Correspondence was received from the Nelson Technical School stating that Mr W. T. Hambley's services had been secured as instructor in wool classes for this season. Classes will bo held in June, July nad August, the fee for the course being 25/-. Any person wishing to avail themselves of this course should notify the secretary as early as possible. i The secretary stated that the provincial president, Mr K. B. Goodall, of Tapawera, and. other members from, that district, had expressed their intention of being present at our next meeting. The accounts presented, being expenses of delegates to provincial rreetings, were passed for payment.
