FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITIONS
Tho Fire Brigade held a competition] on Saturday afternoon for three event,s, without water. The rdea 'was to give members practice at coupling and hydrant work. There were 10 entries for each event. - Mo. 1 Event. —Run 25 yards, plant hydrant, connect union and 2 lengths of 50ft hose, connect branches arid finish 5 yards away: Fireman 11. Dayman, 4 49 i secs., 5 pts, 1; Fireman P. Dayman, 5-1f secs., 3 pts, 2; Messenger Wallace, 55'secs., 1 pt, 3. No. 2 Event. —Hun 10 yards, pick up hydrant ; run 25 yards to plug, piatft hvdrant, pick up one coiled length or 50ft hose and branch; nm out length, connect branch, return to hydrant; run out other coiled length, connect branch and finish on mark 10 yards away: Messenger Wallace, 631 secs., 1 5‘ points, 1 ; Fireman Westrupp, 66 secs., 3 pts, 2; Fireman R. Dayman, C6-J secs., 1 pt, 3. ■ . No. 3- Event.—Run 10 yards, pick up hydrant; run 25 yards to plug, plant hydrant connect up 2 straight lengths of 50 ft. of hose and branch; stand on mark 5 yards away: Fireman P. Dayman, 35 4-5 secs., 5 pts, 1; Fireman R. Dayman, 37 sees., 3 pts, 2 : Fireman Westrupp, 38 1-3 secs., 1 I pt, 3. Aggregate points—winner being presented with a gold medal kindly donated by Mr IE Moran, he second and third prizes being medals subscribed hv the members’ fund of the Brigade: —Fireman R. Dayman, 9 points, 1; Fireman P. Dayman, 8 pts, 2 ; Messenger Wallace, 6 pts, 3. The competition was held on the wwn opposite the police station, kindly lent by the Commissioner of Crown 1 anas. Some really good work was put m by the edmpetition showing careful and consistent practice. The difference between the ten men was only a few seconds in each event. It is the intention of the Brigade to train for events which the 12th Regiment Band wall be placing on their programme for the Ist of February sports, when it is hoped teams from Blenheim, Tacton, Richmond, and Motucka will also com-| pete.
