MELBOURNE, Nov. 16. The cricket match was resumed in the afternoon. The weather was good, but the wicket bad. There was an attendance of 4000.
Mullett and McDonald opened the j bowling to Hearne and Hendren. I Hearne played forward to a ball from | McDonald and spooned it into the i hands of Ryder at mid-off. Woolley followed, and both batsmen laid on the wood to the loose howling. The wicket was' beginning to Ipok dilapidated, and some balls kicked. Ryder relieved Mullett, and Heudren clouted the first ball, a full tosser, to the fence at leg. Woolley gave Liddicutt a chance of a catch at mid-off, but the fieldsman dropped it. At 3.5, with, the score at 418, Douglas declared the_ innings closed, which occupied 365 minutes. Mayne and Park went to the crease to open Victoria’s second innings, and the former narrowly escaped being both stumped and bowled off Woolley s; first over, whichwas a maiden. Rhodes; bowled from the grandstand end, and! another maiden resulted. Mayne scored’the first run off Woolley. i Park was at the wicket 18 minutes before opening his score. Ho made a- fine] stroke off Woolley, and ran into double with a snick to leg next ball, j Twenty appeared after half an hour s; play. , Mayne had been making uppish strokes, and at last put a ball into the hands of Hendren at mid-off, and Park was y.b.w. two ball later, both on Rhodes. Rhodes was bowling a splendid length.- After scoring nine Willis poked a delivery from Woolley into the lands of Fender. Lampard repeated the stroke afW another rpn was scored and Hendren took the catch—. 4—2—34. Rhodes bowled Ryder next over, add with the next ball got another wicket, Moves being smartly stumped by Dolphin. . Ransford and Liddicutt stopped the rout, and brought the score from 34 to 69, when Rransford was caught in the long field. Rhodes tempted McDonald, who was caught at deep slip. Ellis was bowled first hall. , fl o Victoria’s secotfd innings lasted TU minutes. , rQ England won by an innings and o9 runs.
