A curious story o£_ the speculative value of stamps is going round. In the printing of the word “liarotonga’ over the ordinary New Zealand $d stamps (says an exchange) a corner ot one ot the sheets was turned over, and two of the stamps had the word obliterated fromlthem. being printed, on the overturned corner at the back. The purchaser of some sheets of these stamps noticed the omission, and a block ot j the four stamps, included the tAvoj which had missed printing, was torn from the sheet and sold to a dealer for £5. He sold it for £ls, and it is said the second purchaser obtained £l5O for it from the Prince of Wales, who ' bought it for the King, one of the keenest philatelists in the world, and possessor of probably one of the finest col- ] lections of stamps in existence.
