PRICE OF BUTTER

GROCERS’ VIEW

(United Press Association)

WELLINGTON, This Day. The retail grocers do not approve of the recommendations'as to price made by the Butter Committee. Mr. Bennett, president of the Master Grocers’ Association 1 , in a ■statement yesterday, said the proposal to allow 2d profit for a -cash sale at 2s 3d was equal to 7.4 per cent.; while the cost of running a grocery business is now 18 to 20 per cent. The stupidity of tho proposal is in an allowance of twopence for booking; The trade cannot possibly charge customers that amount. If the* trade is compelled to do business on these conditions, it must increase the price of many other linos to make up the loss.
