DISPERSAL SALE OF AYIISHIRES

INVERCARGILL, Aug. 18. _ The dispersal sale of Mr. Rankin s Ayrshire ■. herd at Inglewood Farm, Underwood, attracted a large attendance of breeders from other parts of the Dominion. The top price, 102gns., was obtained for the champion cow. Highland Mary, bought by the Palmer'S ton North brooder Mr. E. Buchanan. Most of the herd remains in Southland. Good. prices were realised.

ADDINCTOX STOCK MARKET

CHRISTCHURCH; Aug. 18. At Addington market there were big yardings of all classes of stock to-day. particularly of fab sheep and store cattle, and values in those showed ar casing compared with recent sales. Store Sheep.—A medium entry, including lines from outside the province. Values were easier than of late, and a number of lines were passed in. .Wether hoggets realised from 22s 3d to 28s 2d. ewe hoggets to 30s Bd, mixed sox hoggets to 27s 6d, cull hoggets 16s to 20s, fairly good two, four, six, and eight-tooth ewes in lamb 25g 2d to 39? «d, sound and failing-month owes 22f 6d to 29s 9d, six and eight-tooth ethers 28s 7d to 37s 6d, four and sixtooth wethers 32s lOd to 365.

Fat Cattle.—A slightly larger yarding, and a firm sale throughout for all prime sorts. Extra prime steers realised from £57 to £46 10s, prime steers £26 10s to £52 10s,. medium steers £lB to £26j prime heifers £lB 10s to £25 10s medium heifers £l2 to £lB. prime cows £lB 10s to £2l 10s, ordinary cows £l2 to £l6 ss. light and unfinished cows £9 7s 6d to £lO 10s.

Fat Sheep—An overflow yarding, which graziers assisted to clear. Values were down about ss. to 7s per head compared with the last sales. The close of the sale was Armey than the opening. Kxtra prime wethers Sss to 665, prime wethers 42s 6d to 49s 6d, medium wethers 37s 6d to 41s 6d, light and' unfinished 53s 3d to 575. prime owes 38s to 455. medium ewes 50s to oss, light and unfinished 22s 6d to 295, prime hoggets 51s to 435, ordinary hoggets 24s to 28s.

Vealers. —A keen inquiry. Runners made to £9 17s 6d, good vealers to £7 hs, medium calves £4 7s 6d. inferior 355.

Store Cattle. —A big yarding. but prices were firm. Two-year-old heifers £6 15s to £7 7s 6d, two-year-old steers to £B, 18 months old steers and heifers £5 to £5 10s, three and four-year-old st/Hjrs to £l4, store cows (good) £6 to £U.

Dairy Cows. —Values declined on recent sale*, though good springing .sorts sold at satisf ictory values. Second calvors £24 5s 6d. second and third calvcrs £l9, medium cows £lO to £l2. Fat Pigs.—A particularly keen demand." Choppers £8 to £lO ss, light baconers £6 10p to £7 ss, heavy baconers £7 15s to £8 10s, . extra heavy baeoners to £9 (average price per lb. Is Olid to Is Id), pofikers £4 10s to £5 6s, heavy porkers £5 15s to £6 5s (average price per !b. Is 2d to le 3d). Store Pigs.—A good entry and a strong demand. Large stores £3 18s to £5 2s 6d, medium stores £3 4s to £5 16s, small stores £2 13s to £3 2s, weanevs 55s to 42s 6d, sows in pig £l4 lUs.

BURNSIDE STOCK SALES. DUNEDIN. ’Aug. 18. There was a fair yarding of fat stock at Burnside to-day, pigs being the exception. A much larger number of the latter could be disposed of at very high rates. Sheep were in fair supply, and met with a somewhat easier market. The quality of the fat cattle ■offered showed an improvement on late yardings, and values were about 10s above last week’s rates. Eat Latte. —A medium yarding, numbering 185 head. The quality was good, the standard being much higher than late yardings. At the opening of the sales competition was good, and prices showed an advance. Extra prime hkavy-weight bullocks realised up to £34 12s M, prime from £23 10s to £3O medium £l9 to £22 10s, light and unfinished sorts from £l6 10s upwards. Prime heifers realised from

ill? to 1123 10s, medium 1114 10h to £l6, light and aged from £ll upwards. Store Cattle.—A small yarding, which was in poor condition, many of the animals being exceptionally so. For this class the demand was very poor, and sales were difficult to effect" There are buyers iu the market for cattle showing breeding and in forward condition, but very few of this description are coming forward. Sheep. —A medium yarding numbering 2663 head. The quality was below the average, the proportion of really mime sheep being small. Competition for prime sheep was fairly good. For medium and inferior .sorts values 2s below last week’s rates. A few extra prime wethers made 57s to 645, prime wethers realised 49s 9 c i to 17s 3d, medium 42s 6d to 48s 6d, light and unfinished sorts 34s upwards; extra prime heavy-weight ewes realised up to 595, prime 44s to 50s 9d, medium 36s to 42g 6d, light and aged 24s upwards. Lambs. —A very small yarding, only 101 being offered for sale. The quality was of tlie medium description. Lambs suitable for butchers realised from 28s to 37s 'a head. A few pens of store lambs offered were difficult to sell. Pigs.—A fair yarding, which met with keen competition at prices on a par with late ruling rates.
