When she referred to attacks made iu John Bull there ’were many cries of “ VVte don’t want to hear it. Tear it up.” Lady Astor. however, completed her statement. .Speaking with considerable emotion, she said that when th© streets of London were flooded with placards bearing the words “Lady Aster's Divorce,” many believed a divorce was impending between herself an<i .Lord Astor. “Really,” she said, “the events are .seventeen years old. The divorce in '1903 was entirely due to my hphand’.s misconduct becoming so open, that there was no alternative jeft but to dissolve tbe merriage. Previously I preferred separation, having the custody of my child. This is the whole history of my early sorrow.
