MOTUEKA LICENSING COMMITTEE
At the annual meeting of the Motueka Licensing Committee, the Chairman, Air S. J» Javans, S.AL, said that on the whole the reports as to the conduct of licensed■ houses were fa-, vourablc. .Regarding tlie Globe Hotel, Waitapu, the Police objections wei'e inrespect to a uuinbor of convictions against the licensee. The Bench issued a warning regarding the future conduct of this hotel. With regard to the Murchison hotels. counsel wore instructed to convey a warning to the licensees concerned. reference being' made to «. number of convictions under the Act. In reference to Wilson’s Hotel (Leefton), it was alleged the license ns bdd by a school teacher, who returned to Beef ton during tire holidays. Tiro Chairman said this was not in accordance with the Act. The licensee must reside on the premises, and could not be absent therefrom more than 11 days in one year without the consent, in ant' case, of the Committee. A single:woman coujd not hold a license. The Reef ton members of use Committee said the hotel was exceptionally well conducted. The Chairman said that the question of lire .alarms had been discussed in committee, ami it was decided tlfat tiie recommendations made at Nelson should apply to Motuka, i*e.: liiat suitable lire"alarms and five escapes must be installed and kept in reasonably good order in all licensed premises. It was also resolved that future meetings' of the Committee be held in Murchison as the most central for mom'bor:-’, and that a recommendation be forwarded to the Justice Department to make Motueka the headquarters of the Committee. The Chairman said it was unnecessary for applicants for renewals and new licenses to attend meetings or the Committee, if the papers were- m . ordert unless specially requested to do so.—Star.
