BAND CONTEST
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
A meeting of the Band Contest Committee was held at the Council Chambers last evening. The Mayor (Mr. W. W. Snodgrass) presided. The seorettvy (Mr. C. Loaper) gave a comprehensive account of the Band j Contest held at Dunedin, at which the > Band of the 12th Regiment competed. A letter was read from Wellington, stating that the North Island Brass Band Association had decided to hold the 1921 contest in Wellington . about February or March, and hoping that tlio two contests would not be allowed to clash. The writer (Mr. Jenner, secretary of the Wellington Committee) stated that in past years the North Island contest had ■ been j held in the months stated. , The secretary’s reply was read; and I it was decided that the; matter was one for the two Associations to arrange. The secretary quoted from a. newspaper slip showing that the North Island , | contest' had been fixed for November ; : but, failing that, in the month of 1 February. The writer stated that he was shortly leaving tor Australia, in connection with baud contest matters, and he thought it quite possible that some Australian bands would compete at the Nelson contest.
