DEFENCE SCHEME FOR N.Z.
SUPPORTED BY RETURNED SOLDIERS. (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. At the Returned Soldiers’ Conference to-day, Mr J. D. Harper, on behalf of the Wellington Association, moved “That this Association considers an efficient defence scheme is essential to New Zealand as a country in itself, and as part of the Empire.'’ He said e did not think war was done with. The League of Nations had not achieved all that Avas expected of it, and in the interest of the future of this country avb must be prepared and ready to defend ft. At the same time it was the duty of the country to consider an efficient reconstruction scheme, Avhich should be possible Avith the experience gained. There was a League in the country now Avhich had been formed for the purpose of urging effective future defence. He did not know whether the Association Avas prepared to offer its assistance to the Defence League constitution, widen had been widely published. HoAvevcr, he threw this out as a suggestion. Mr H. McPherson seconded the motion. Avhich was carried unanimously.
