The shortage of sugar at the P re ~ sent time was drawn attention U> b> Mr Field (Nelson) in the Hr use of Representatives. Mr Field asked if relief could be given t-p fruit preservers and jam manufacturers in order that they might deal with large supplies of fresh fruit which would soon be rooming in. The Prime Minister replied that lie had instructed the Board of Liade to inquire into the scare ty of sugar which apparently existed. He had )’o louht the ’ report whirl'd reach ' him shortly. He understood the mice of the question asked by Mr Field because what was taking place vmild' interfere vei y considerably with people in the business of fruit preserving and jam making. He would do his best to see that a supply of sugar was available.
