RECLAMATION OF MUDFLATS.
Tire Chairman again) brought forward Ilia proposal to reclaim a large area of the Moutere Lagoon .mudflats In explaining his suggestions, the Chairman stated 1 that there were several schemes which' appeared to be possible of accompli shmebt. The first was to declaim a very large area, taking in the larged portion; and another was to shut the tidte from a bihaltei* area of about one square mile. All of the other members of the Eoar t ]: considered) that the suggestions were well worthy of consideration, and it was stated 1 that the land, if reclaimed:, would' be’Very valuable. In reply to a question, th e Chairman) said that it might »T>e possible to borrow money to carry on the work suggested, dr it might be possible to lease the land for reclamation. It would be necessary to obtain the report of an engineer and the sanction of the (Minister of Marine if the engineer’s report was favourable. Resolved' (Messrs Guy and Lomax) that all possible information, be procured with reference to the suggestions for the redajnation of mudflats.
