THE WAIRAU SEAT.
iMr J. Jj. Ooitry, The Independent} Liberal candidate for the Wairau seat, addressed a meeting of electors at' Foxhill .last evening. Over forty persons were present, and Mr J. Thompson pie sided. The candidate spoke •on the limes of his address at Wakefield on the previous evening, hia remarks being followed with close interest. At the conclusion, on the motion of Mr A. Balt, seconded by Mr A. )0. Baigent, Mr... 'Gerry was accorded 1 a very hearty vote of thanks for- his aMe and) instructive address, the motion being car lied with acclamation. He ©aid he knew Mr "Witty; the sitting member, and' had a high, regaxd for him personally, but they must remember that Mr Witty, in supporting the ■ Lib. ' eraln, was bound in many ways when the party whip cracked. A tote of thank s arid confidence in Mr Robertson was moved, also v an amendment “that the meeting thanks Mr Robertson for his address, but has every confidence an its present member,” The chairman declared the motion carried by an overwhelming majority.
