Sir Auckland Geddes refused the toyinakers’ demand, and considered there was no-tiing to fear from Germany in any direction for a long time to Come. “We are. going to get* a greatly improved out put of coal” he said, “and '.here is no reason why our trade generally should not be far greater in Hie future than in the past. 1 ’ ‘
