Sir Edward Uoyiiter. President, ol the Royal Academy, is dead, aged 83.
(Sir Edward John Poynter was horn at Paris i u 1836. die studied art in London and Paris, and was elected an Associate, of the RoPal Academy in 1869, and a. Royal Academician, in 1876. He was Slade Professor of Art at University College, London, from 1871 to 1875, principal .of ’the .National Art Training School, South Kensington, until 1881, aim! direct,,a* of the National Gallery from 1894 1..
