•WORKERS' WEARING APPAREL. (United Press Association) GREYMOUTH, June 19. Air T. Y. Seddon, M.P., visited Otira, and conferred with the tunnel workers and dealt with the much-vexed que droit of the wearing .apparel of worms Ihe committee stated that a sou’-wester costs 4s 6d, and lasts three months; an oilskin coat £2 10s, and lasts two month; a pair of boots costs £2 6s, and lasts two months. The cost was so dear, and renewals so frequent, that what appeared at first s’ghfc high wages, on analysis were rot so. As the price of working apparel was so high, and it was likely to become higher it was suggested that the Public Works Department procure outfits and sell them to workers a t , a reasonable price. The question of wages has been variously stated, and was given as follows: Fajeo ■.machinists (four) get 16s 7-id per diem; shift bosses, 17s 6d x ; machinists (ten) 16s Id; Other workers in tunnel, 15s. The amounts include travelling time and war bonuses. Akm workings outside get 13s per day. l aknig the average worker’s earning, with a deduction made as to the cost of an outfiit, he gets not much over 12s per Vav. • %
