FIRE AT OPOTIKI
SEVERAL BUILDINGS DESTROYED. (Press Association. —Copyright,,; OPOTIKI., Tliis Day. A fire started in the heart of 'the town this morning and shops owned by J. C. Arthur and occupied by H. E. Baltic (bootmaker), J. Steptoo (saddler) and a building owned and occupied by H. Lauor (tobacconist) teere completely destroyed. The insurances total £IOSO.
All the occupiers arc heavy losers, Tlie brigade was promptly ou the scene and prevented The spread of the fire to the adjoining building. A large plate-glass window in a shop on the opposite side of the street owned bv W, Oakes was shat 'eved, a distinct bullet hole remaining in a portion.
The heat from the fire was not considered sufficient to break 'die window and the police are investigating.
