Sir K. Wallers, president of the Johannesburg Mines, ire a letter . to the Premier, warns him of the 'critical position of the gold mining industry. He says nothing could now prevent a lumber of important mines from closing shortly. Sir E. Wallers urges ■ Government consideration of the position in view of the unemployment and distress that must, result. The Minister of Mines, in an interview, .said the Government realised the gravity of the position, and was anxious to assist, but the Government could noj-,' undertake to keep the mines working at a loss.
