NURSE AND HOSPITAL BOARD.
CLAIM FOR SERVICES DURING EPIDEMIC. CHRISTCHURCH, April 28. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Florence Martha Lewis claimed £l6 from the Ashburton Hospital Board for services rendered as a nurse in charge of a temporary hopital at Methven during the influenza epidemic, from sth to 25th December at £6 6 S per week. The defendant hoard counter-claimed for £OO, the value of 42 mattresses, 6S pillows, and carpet runner wrongfully burned or destroyed at the temporary hospital The hoard contended that the remuneration claimed by the plaintiff, an unregistered nurse, was excessive, and that 10s per day was a fair rate of Pa ?he Magistrate, after reviewing the evidence, said that 15s 6d per day, considering the circumstances, would he a fair rate of pay, and gave judgment for plaintiff for £l2 3s. With regard to the counter-claim, it was his opinion that Nurse Lewi, had been authorised to destroy the articles, and so would give judgment against the board, with costs.
