The “New York Times,’,’ commenting on the reported Nationalist riots in Egypt, points out that Egypt came under British rule ..through. the incompetency of the native Government. The paper says that if Egypt were given independence now . probably, in a few years the country would be in turmoil. It adds that Britain is prepared to give the Egyptians, self-government by degrees as they fit themselves for the responsibility.

STERN MEASURES. CAIRO, March 29." General Sir Edmund Allenby' who has assumed command informed Egyptian notables that he intends to take stem repressive,'measures in Egypt, as order must be restored.
