MASTERTON, March 28. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Reginald Joseph Devonshire, formerly teller of the Bank of Austariasia, Masterton, was charged on six separate counts with stealing moneys °£/ he aggregating about £BOO. The thefts wane alleged to have extended over a period of two years. The method alleged to have been adopted by accused was to give a slip to a customer who paid in money to the bam., and to fail to keep a counterpart of the slip for ledger purposes, subsequently uppi opn.iting to his own use th 0 amount of the deposit. When the account of a customer became low, and cheques were presented, accused would pay in money to thfb credit of the account to prevent the heesues from being dishonoured. Another method alleged to have been adopts cl by accused was to suppress cheques from customers whose moneys he had appropriated.—Post correspondent.
