The Ministey of Shipping states that 'the Commonwealth Government has no intention of sitting down quietly and allowing itself to be squeezed' by the big shipping rim*. He considers' that no (fountry in the world is likely to suffer more than Australia through the action of the shipping ring. An extension of the shipbuilding programme of the ‘ Federal Government by the construction of four or more steel vessels shortly receive Cabinet considera- ’ tioii. The vessels are to be of 10,009 f . tons- each. They will be fitted with ' refrigerating space," and have a speed of 12| knots.
