HOUSE OF COMMONS
OPENING 'PROCEEDINGS. {Australian and N.Z. Cable Association^ (Bee. Feb. 6, 9.10 a.m.) DON DON, Feb. 4. There was a big attendance at the opening of the House of Commons, many being unable to find seats. _ I The Labourites occupied the opposition benches, including the front benches with the Independent Liberals and .Messrs McLean,, Hodge, dynes, Thorne, and Adamson, sitting on the front bench. The Et. Horn F. B. Mi-Mmay proposed the Rt. Bon. J. W, Lowther’s re-election as Speaker, Sir Henry Dalziell seconded and paid a tribute to Mr Lowther’s high appreciation of the Speaker’s duties. Mr Lowther accepted, and recalled that he presided in the House of -Oommona in the momentous days of the outbreak of war and hoped still to be in the chair when the announcement was made that peace had 1 been signed', lie was willin gto retain the speakership for two years. Mr Lowther moved the adjournment until to-morrow when members will be •worn in.
