. ACTION IN - AUSTRALIA. ‘ , A protest against the release of Ger-mans-.from the ’ various internment camps in New South Wales was made recently, by ; a nwpting of the Sailors and Soldiers’ Mothers’, Wives’ and Relatives’ Association in the Sydney Town The proceedidgs were wildly enthusi-ast-ic.. Alderman Ogilvy, who was in the chair, said it was time they woke up to a sense of . thrir responsibilities. If those Germans * were sufficiently dangerous to be interned during the actual hostilities, surfely they were just as dangerous how- during the time of the amdstice,. If ! the Federal Government iritqnded to kefep to Lte policy of releasing, .these mu,’it would mean that they would be afforded the opportunity of entering into competition with the sol-, diem on their return- from the front. 1 They ail knew that they could not put any .-faith.in a German;- therefore this sort of thih& shouldnotl be tolerated for a moment, : The . public should insist, on released Germans being deported. Sufficient money should be allowed them to carry them safely to their destinations, and «the rest of ‘their property should be confiscated in favour of the. returned soldiers,;The.meeting; warmly applauded these sentiments, - was quite ’in accord . with the -proposals. A, was (Carried protesting “against the releasing of enemy interneed while peace is still in abeyance, as the inhuman cruelty practised on .oar own and British prisoners doe* net justify such leniency bring shown.”
