NELSON HOSPITAL & CHARITABLE AID BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Nelson Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was. held tolday, there being present, Messrs T. Neale (Chairman), R. Win, T. Hewetson, G. Macmahon, G. Page, and C. R. Fell. Mr A. I. Manoy was granted leave of absence. Accounts were passed for payment as follows; Hospital £517 Is sd; charitable aid £220 3s 9d.

HOSPITAL REPORT. The Resilient Surgeon (D.r. Jamieson) reported that during the month there were 57 admissions ; 55 patients wore discharged and 6 died, leaving 48 in the institution. He stated that he- had hoped to close the diphtheria ward this month, but two fresh, admissions prevented it. CORRESPONDENCE. From Messrs Rout and Milner, solicitors, stating that under “The Destitute Persons Act, 1910,” any reputable person may lay. a complaint on oath that any other persons is a destitute ’persons and has a near relative ot sufficient ability to contribute to ho support of that destitue person. A magistrate may order the near relative to pay a sum not exceeding 21s a week towards the future maintenance of such destitute person. Referring to the special circumstances indicated in the Board’s letter the best course was for the Board to satisfy itself that the son was able o contribute towrads his aged father’s support and then lay a complaint, upon which a summons would be issued against the son.

It was resolved to take proceedings against the son. hiom Nurse Robinson, resigning from the nursing staff.—Accepted. From the Matron, on behalf of the Hospital nursing and domestic staff, thanking the Board for bonus in connection with their work during the influenza epidemic. (Left sitting.)
