SCULLY'S DEPARTURE.

SYDNEY, July 12. The Government has taken steps to intercept Scully en route to San Francisco, andi will endeavour to induce him to return.
The Hon. D. R. Hall, Attorney-Gen-eral, stated that the Crown- paid Scully £520, being his share of the reward and' maintenance during the court case, and final settlement. 'Scully left the country afc his own request because he feared for his personal safety. He was unable to obtain employment and destitute of funds. Ha appealed for £IOOO to enable him to start a new career elsewhere, and commenced an action against the Government foi" compensation for losses he had incurred. Finally he agreed to accept £l5O in' settlement to pay the expenses of his passage. The police therefore ' were not responsible lor his leaving, as had been alleged.
