INDEPENDENCE DAY.

MESSAGE EROM^ACT'IiNG*-PREMIER

(United Tress Association.)

AUCKLAND, Julv 4. Sir James Allen has wired to MjWinston, American Consul-General at Auckland, as follows:-—"I'n this fourth day of July, I am sure all New Zealanders rejoice to know that the great American people are with them in the fight for freedom. Fi-om my window I see the flags of the United Kingdom and of the United States of America flying side by si<3e on a crossbar at the head of a flagstaff, emblematic, as Jfc seems to me, of the determination or these two great nations, in concert with our mutual Allies, to see that the scales of liberty, trnth, and justice are evenly balanced, not only now, but for all time."
