HELPING HAND SHOP

The- Red Cross Fund, benefits' by the , takings at the .Helping Hand Shop yesterday to the extent of _£29 3s. Of this amount £1 Is was ralseu by tions. The expenses were 12s. Contri- j butions were rec. ived from 88 Valley j and Tahunanui, Boys' Central and Girls' Central Schools, and the city. Good entries were' received for the shortbread competition, which consider- < ably increased the funds. The prizes | ..were given by Mrs Macquarie, and were J won b~v Miss Gibbs (first) and Miss>..Hall j (.second). The judging was done by Mrs j 'Cross, who considered many of the en-'j tries very good. The contributions i from Happy Valley, Wakapuaka, and | Atawhai w'j-e not quite as good as j usual. The committee thank those, who | did give, and hope that those .who did J not will do so next time.
