PERMITS NEEDED.
FOR PATRIOTIC ENTERTAINMENTS. - By an amendment of the War Legislation Act of last year it .was resolved by Parliament tliat"permits would be necessary for the raising of "money for a war fund by means ,of bazaars, socials, dances, entertainments, or by any similar means. " A permit, inust have the signature of a mayor: or, the chairman of a county council (or similar body; or the president of a society controlling the war fund in question or a trustee of such 'fund (provided the society or the trust has been incorporated under the provisions of the War Funds Act) j or any superintendent or inspector, of police;' or any other person authorised by the* Minister, of Internal affairs.
Permits are issued subject to the following conditions:— ■'"'.- . 1. The committee controlling the
must consist of not less than three persons approved by the trustees of the fund to be benefited., - 2. A detailed statement, of receipts and expenditure must be furnished in duplicate, one copy to the trustees of die fund, and one copy to the Minis ter of Internal Affairs. Such state, ment to- be "certified by the committee controlling the'. .-. ■ 3. The expenses in connection -with the must not exceed ~ .....per cent, of the gross receipts. Application forms are obtainable at municipal offices or at the War Funds office (Department of Internal Affairs), Panama street, AVellirigton. As promoters of entertainments have not been applying for permits, the police have bee n instructed to take action, states the Post.

' Ofc course, any or organisation is at liberty to promote any entertainment with the intention of giving a portion of.the"!profit to a war fund, but such intentio n (restricted to a portion) must not b© advei;tis'ed: The nosition then would be simply that the I entertainment would be held .in the ordinary way, and a part of the profit would be given to a fund.
