The newspapers urge the necessity of the Government immediately formulating charges against the Irish prisoners and expediting publication of the ma terfal facts. This would give the accused a full and fair opportunity of making- a defence. The Daily- Telegraph says the su preme mistake of successive British Go vernment-s during the past decade ha* been to allow British authority and lav to fall into contempt. The Daily Telegraph congratulates' the Government in having at length de> termined to end the open treaso n 5d Ireland. They have cast their net "wide, and it hopes there will be no more pitiful" surrender to clamour for the release of the conspirators as political prisoners. The Movuihg Post says the arrests are an excellent step towards the reestabli.shment of firm government in Ireland. It complains that the .Nationalist leaders are left to carry on the seditions agitation against conscription.
