STOKE ROAD BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Stoke Road Board was held on Saturday, I'recent : Messrs F. W. O. Smith. T. B. Chisnall. H. T. Palmer, H. T. Cook, and A. Tosswill. Mr Smith, in the ! absence of -Mr Allport, who was excused, was voted to the chair. The overseer reported that the ruts lon Beach road, i ahunanui. required raking in. Two posts of the electric light plant were out of line, and should be re-erected. A low place in the footpath near Mr Fairey's house required filling up. Rototai street should be graded and formed, and the low lyi;i>_: places filled up. Accompanied by Mr Chisnall he had visited Aniseed A alleyLines's cutting had been damaged by recent floods, and required filling up. He recommended that the rock on the hillside be blasted out and used for filling purposes. A washout, about 70 feet in length, had occurred on German Busch road. It was recommended that a new road be made, and the washout be allowed to remain. iMen using the road had agreed to -do the necessarv work. A washout had also taken place past the Rocks road, and a large quantity of gravel had been deposited on the road. This should be removed and used for gravelling elsewhere. Damage had also been done on Rocks road, and it was recommended that the hillside, which was of solid rock ,should be blasted out in order to widen the road. Clover road, from R. Palmer s corner to the gate, required regravelling as all the gravel had been washed awaj. In the dips on Clover road at C. Cross s the gravel had been washed off, and again required attention. A large washout had taken place on Max s load, near the river, which required filling up and gravelling. At Bateup's end of Clover road a deep washout had occurred, and could be filled up with boulders. The road had been cleared of gravel. Soil had been washed from adjoining paddocks on to Eden s load, and Mr Eden complained that the pipe was insufficient to carry the water oft the road. He recommended that the mebers for the district should inspect the road. Repairs had been done to Sight's bridge, and stones had been put back on Bell's road to protect the embankment. A swing bridge was required at C. Niemann's. The county clf>-k advised that the sum of £2OO, I—>l first instalment of the 1917-18 ral--. had been paid into the Board's bank acount. Mr E. J. Tosswill, Stoke, drew the Board's attention to the state the road from Heath's corner to his and complained of the size of the j-iotal used.—Stones to be bi-oken. .Messrs P. R- Hall and W.
