Y.M.C.A. APPEAL
SURPRISE PACKET DAY.
A meeting of the Surprise Packet Committee was held in the Council Chamber last evening, Mr H. J. Harris presiding. There was a good attendance. It was unanimously decided to offer to halve the effort with the Red Cross Fund, the decision of the committee of that fund as to whether or r.ot they will accept the offer to be notified to the chairman not later than this evening, so as to facilitate the immediate issue of tickets for sale. It was stated that £o far over 4000 parcels have been tied up, ad that "5000 or fcCOO more are already in the hands of the committee.
It was decided to display some of the better prizes in the depot window in Hardy-street. The resolution as to the date of Surprise Packet Day was rescinded, and the dav fixed for Mav 25th instead of Mav llth.
Mrs Pogson was appointed secretary to the Surprise Packet 'Committee, in place of Mr E. H. Short, who for business reasons found it necessary to
resign. In order to ensure absolute secrecy, it was decided by the committee to sell the tickets in sealed envelops.
