(BYPLANE'S PROFITS. (Press Association Copyright.) (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Federal Comimssioner of Taxation, replying to statements that the stakes won by Bytplane at the spring meetings in Australia last year were treated as excess profits and taxed heavily, says this is totally incorrect. No such action was adopted 'by the Taxation Department. In addition to £50,000 subscribed to the War Loan at Eandwicfo last week, the Lord Mayor caught sportsmen at Tattersall's Club on settling day and raised £117,000. RACING AND WAR. (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) •SYDNEY, This Day. Replying to much sharp criticism arising out of the record attendances at Randwick during the last meeting, while the thinned Australian battalions in France insistently call for reinforcements, big men of the sport most vitally interested, agree that there is too much racing, but claim that the fault lies with the Government in not curtailing it. They declare that the recommendations made for the limitation of the sport were whittled away, presumably because of influential representations," that racing was rapidly getting back to its former extraordinary proportions. They insist that the object of the big clubs in the sport is to the end of improving horse breeding and not for profit. As to other clubs and pony clubs, which cater for non-utility animals, they demand these should be rleduced to the miinmum and point out that since the commencement of the year no fewer than 128 races have been run on pony courses, the prize money averaging only £73.
