•CLOSING ON PETROGRAD'.

PETROGRAD, March 3.

The Germans have reached Narva, 80 miles from. Petrograd, and are approaching- Lougadno. The capture of the latter will give them three railway connections with Petrograd. The patrols have penetrated deeply at some points.

GERMAN REPORTS.

ENORMOUS CAPTURES CLAIMED. (Australian and N.Z. Gable Assooiawoi. and Renter.) (Admiralty per Wireless Press.) LONDON, March 3. A German official message says:— "After a hard fifrht we captured Pieskau, and also Polozk and Bolishoff, and functioned with the Polish divisions- at ißobtuisks. '' The Austro-Germans entered Shmerinka. We have taken prisoner heretofore 6800 officers and 57,00 men, and have captured 2400 guns, 5000 machine guns, 1000 vehicles, including motor vehicles, 11 armoured motor cars, 800 locomotives, 8000 railway trucks, and great quantities- of artillery munitions. Moreover we took ■prisoner at Reval 513 men, and captured 220 guns and 22 aeroplanes." A later message says that owing to th e signature of the peace treaty military movement in Great Russia have

March 5, 1.55 p.m.) NEW YORK; March 4. The United Press Petrograd correspondent says the peace treaty signed with Germany is regarded as a scrap of ( paper. Enthusiasm for fighting is at the highest level Jiere. The Petrograd Executive Council called an extraordinary session of Soldiers, Peasants ,and Cossacks at Mosco>v for the. i2th March to decide whether to accept or reject peace. Allied Consuls have arrived at Moscow from Nieff.
