MURDERED GENERAL

DUKHONIN'S TERRIBLE DEATH

AT MOB'S HANDS.

Th e Stockholm correspondent of the Paris Matin- quotes av> eye-witness for the following account of the murder of General D-ukhonin, the late Russian Commander-in-Chief, at Mohileff : The general appeared at the window of his railway carriage. "Throw us your e paulettes !" shrieked, the soldiers, "or we'll kill you," and they shouldered' their rifles. Krylenko (Lenin's "Commandter-in-■Ohief) begged the general to give way to- them, but 3>ukhonin refused. "They can go to the deuce," he cried. "Let them kill me!" A .bullet whistled by, breaking- the window, then a second. -General Odintzeff went up to 3>ukhonin and gently took off his epaulettes. They were thrown to the mob and. were quicklytorn to pieces and trampled underfoot. His two ord'era followed' and. for a moment we thought he was saved. Then a handful of sailors jumped- into the carriage. They eeized Dukhonin by the shoulders and pushed him to the end of th e coach, and theft on to the platform. Krylenko Tan after them. The general's appearance caused a "reat uproar. "-Kill him right- out!" they screamed. "Kerensky and Korniloff got off. • Men like him must be '■-iPed -at once!" As the mob pushed- closer and' closer upon the general, Krylenko stormed and shouted, but no one took any notice. With a single blow the general wa» struck down by a tall sailor from; the rebel cruiser Aurora. Dukhonin got on his feet again' at once, his face s-treaming with blood. He tried- to speak, but- a dozen bayonets were run, ! hrouch him.

Grotesque and horrible scen«s followed. I could' no longer look ou and •lashed back into the- carriage, where I found Krvlenko silti'vr in a corner, .his face in his hands. When he lifted his bead I saw he was as pale as death. "Looki at them,"ahe said in a whisper. "There's no holding them- in how. I ind' all the rest of us must'come to the same end."
