KILLED WHILE ASLEEP.
QUARREL OVERCAME OF CARDS. (United Association.) TAIHAPB, Feb. 25. What like a premeditated murder is alleged to have taken place at a bush contractors' camp at Karioi, 92 miles from Wanganui, in the early hours of Sunday morning, when a man named Peter Larsen was killed by having his head battered in while asleep by a fellow-workman named Jack (Robinson. It is alleged that drink had been taken into the camp, And that during Saturday night the time was whiled away with a game of cards. A quarrel arose over the game, but the men parted and went to their respective beds. iSome time afterwards Larsen went to sleep, and it is said that Robinson, with some heavy weapon, struck the sleeping man a terrific blow, killing him instantly, as there was no evidence of a scuffle. Robinson was arrested at Karioi, and taken to oh,aglcune, where he was remanded till to-morrow. An iiiquest was opened, and this also was adjourned tin to-morrow. frttT® J O jTi * © . &
